Five short, sharp, snappy presentations were offered, to highlight local food projects and enterprises in the bio-region and beyond. Over 70 people came to hear from leaders in the field, and welcome Stefan Sobkowiak of the Permaculture Orchard Film. Stefan showed a segment from the film and talk about the methods, the logic and the economics behind his diverse and productive orchard-based system.
The Matakana Village Hall is one of those solid and substantial rural halls with a capacity for 200 people, built when small, intensive agriculture was how we grew almost all of NZ’s food.
People’s responses to the day was overwhelmingly positive and this 1 minute clip shows a humorous moment when Stefan pointed to the advantages of our climate and long growing season, compared to what he has back in Quebec.
